Action on Disability and Development (ADD) is a UK based non-governmental organization established in the UK in 1985 in recognition of the fact that disabled people, especially disabled women and children, are among the poorest, most disadvantaged and are rarely included in development work. Over the years ADD has developed into a leading international development agency supporting human rights and development work with groups of disabled people in Africa and Asia.

ADD is currently working in 12 countries split across three programme regions (two in Africa with nine countries and one in Asia with three countries). ADD promotes a right based approach to disability and development aimed at empowering disabled persons.

Its vision is:

"A world where all disabled people are able to enjoy their rights, fulfill their responsibilities and obligations and participate as fully as they choose at every level of society.”

ADD has been active in Cambodia since 1995. In 2009 ADD Cambodia supported 28 Disabled People’s Organizations (DPOs) and Self-help groups (SHG) partners in Phnom Penh and 11 provinces (Kampong Speu, Kampong Chnang, Kampong Cham, Prey Veng, Svay Rieng, Kampot, Takeo, Battambang, Pailin, Kandal, Banteay Mean Chey). Seven DPOs have been fundamentally strong in institutional and programme development, financial management, and have been independent, while the other DPOs are progressively improving.

In 2010, ADD Cambodia Programme aspires that more improvement is made such as: 1) Disabled People’s Organizations increasing its membership and networking, and are able to work more independently with capacity to access funding from other sources, 2) Disability issues are addressed by government institutions and development stakeholders, and 3) improving on rights of disabled persons to access education, healthcare services, water and sanitation, etc.  We signed Agreements to Support (ATS) with seven DPOs that ADD selected to work with directly, and committed to continuing its support indirectly through the Cambodian Disabled People’s Organization (CDPO) to 21 other DPOs.

Our focus includes:

Strengthening the Capacity of Disabled People’s Organizations, Mainstreaming and influencing Disability and monitoring the implemen- tation of Disability Law
ADD is ensuring that issues of marginalized group of disabled persons are taken into account in its direct and supporting activities.
